How often do you have casino nights?
Once or twice a year, I have a casino night at one of my large cocktail parties. The gambling is sponsored by a charitable organization and any profits go to them. Gambling will be strictly an option and the casino aspect will not take over the party. If you know of a charitable organization that is interested, have them contact me. They should be prepared to handle all of the logistics. The Children's Trust Fund has written a memo which discusses some of the logistics of hosting a casino night.
Can I win money, as opposed to prizes?
You can win money, as opposed to prizes. We strongly encourage people to contribute back any winnings by tossing their chips in a bucket at the end of the evening, but that is not required — you can cash in your chips if you wish.
If I contribute back my winnings, can I deduct my contribution?
Good question. I am working with a charity to investigate this matter and I'll add this information in the future.
Does anything else happen on casino nights?
Usually the charity will have a silent auction and will obtain corporate sponsors, both of which increase the amount of money the charity raises through the event.
Is there an admission charge?
No. Like all of my parties, casino nights are free.
What if I don't like to gamble?
Gambling does not overtake the party.
